With all this madness in the current Corona Virus restrictions, couples across Ireland are faced with a choice of go now or take the gamble and postpone until normality restores.
I spoke with Cathal from WeddingSuppliers.ie, Tara Faye International Wedding Planner and Sharon Griffin of Frog Prince Weddings. All encouraged couples to just go for it as so much hangs in the balance for 2021. We have the new 6-9 month road map and we see that there is a cap on numbers to 100 guests. At the moment as I write this, some counties are in level 3 with 25 guests and the rest of the country at 50. It’s very unpredictable so planning during these times does not come without palpitations and stress.
The experts I interviewed were strong advocates for a small intimate wedding. Whilst we know the downside of a small wedding is that you will be cutting your list, some of you may have so much money tied up with your venue, plus there is an assumption that there won’t be as much fun.
On the flip-side, a small wedding means that you only have your nearest and dearest meaning that you get to spend quality time with each and everyone of your guests. I know on my own wedding day, I had 165 and there was no way I got to spend proper time or actually be part of the fun. There were people at my wedding that I never met, do not know and have not seen since the day. Imagine having a pass to actually cut out to just bunker down to your best people.
Tara said ‘Just Go For It!’…..I completely agree. I am hearing from couples on a daily basis that are so over their whole wedding as they have now postponed 3-4 times and we are just playing roulette with the 50, 25 or 6 number at the moment. Tara gave stellar advice, plan for your A=100, B=50, C=25 and D=6. When you look at what a wedding would look like at each of those numbers, then you can make an informed decision on what you are willing to have or not have. Many are getting married now but having the wedding party next year.
Sharon showcased just how beautiful a smaller wedding can be. With the smaller numbers, you can have those Pinterest worthy table settings and Instagram glam flowers. If you have invested this money in your wedding, trade up, get the 7 course taster menu with wine pairing, go for the decor or the added extras that you didn’t think you could have as you were feeding 150-200 guests.
I can assure you, I have not heard one regret from any of the couples that have gotten un touch with me that have gone ahead with their wedding day with a reduced number. They are in fact, raving about how amazing and intimate it was and that they would’t change a thing.
It is of course your personal preference but if this wedding is holding your life up, just do it, go for it and then have a party next year when you can.
Best of luck with all of your wedding planning, go easy on yourselves xx
