Covid 19 has well and truly turned wedding plans on their head over the last year and with that of course, honeymoon plans too. Some have chosen to postpone in hopes of a bigger wedding or an international getaway to look forward to after their big day but plenty are now taking the opportunity to travel Ireland; to see the sites they’ve never seen before, to approach this beautiful island with the gusto of a first-time tourist.
Many of you have reached out to me to help find a travel planner here on the ground in Ireland. I found Ireland’s Experience Planner on that quest and what I discovered is that it’s so much more than a hotel booking service.
I’m joined today by Sarah Hanrahan who is the lady behind Ireland’s Experience Planner. Sarah has been creating completely personalised Irish travel itineraries for many years now. I read some of the reviews on her site and wow! She really delivers the most beautiful bespoke packages.
Previously Sarah created these itineraries for a mostly international client base until 2020 saw her domestic clientele shoot up to become her main demographic; a large portion of that demographic is couples refocusing their honeymoon to home turf and, not being sure where to start.
After a year of honeymoon planning for Irish lovebirds through experienceplanner.ie, Sarah has a wealth of knowledge on what makes the perfect post-wedding getaway. Below she shares with us six reasons why Ireland makes the best honeymoon location ever!
1- It’s A Stress-Free Experience
No matter how calm we like to believe we are, international travel can undoubtedly be stressful… from the fear of overweight luggage to the seemingly inevitable issue with the rental car to food hazards and jetlag; you’re almost guaranteed to find tensions flaring before the flight is even boarded! By choosing to stay in Ireland you’re choosing to hop in your own car at whatever time you please, pack as many pairs of shoes as you like… and hit the road whenever you want. There’s a lot of to be said for knowing the currency, the colloquialisms, the language and the roadsigns. All-in, the ease of travelling Ireland means we’re relaxed from the moment the travel begins.
2- You Can Go Totally Off The Grid
Some of Ireland’s most incredible offerings are tiny tree houses in the woods or cabins tucked away down back roads. Incredibly romantic locations that can be enjoyed to the maximum with a little bit of pre-planning and local knowledge. After the hectic lead up to your big day why not take the time to fully unplug; lock the door, order pizza and… make a run for the hot tub; what more could you want?
3- See Our Beautiful Country Like Never Before
Yes, we’re from Ireland but do we actually KNOW Ireland? How many times have you really looked at Ireland through the same eager eyes that you use to explore lands afar? Most people make much more of an effort to visit cultural sites while on holidays but have in fact seen very little of their own country’s offerings. As I say, theres a reason why so many people visit Ireland so why not REALLY visit it ourselves??
4- You Can Be Completely Flexible
Covid restrictions still a worry? Book a hotel with a cancellation policy to suit or, an Airbnb that offers rescheduling. Taking flights and car hire/transfers out of the equation makes rejigging the whole occasion a lot easier…. plus, when you’re having a ball of a time on your Irish honeymoon it’s much easier to stay for a extra few days… or at least an extra few hours if the getaway’s last night turned into a bit of a wild one (our incredible Irish pubs are known for our impromptu singsongs after all!).
5- It’s An Adventure Like No Other
Ireland has some of the best adventure activities in the world from sea cliff climbing in the Burren to meditation retreats in rural Kerry, tank driving in the Wicklow mountains and food foraging in West Cork… they’re quite literally something for everyone.
6- You Can Pack The Pooch
I’ve planned many dog-friendly honeymoons over the last years for loved up couples and their four legged friend. I’m a massive animal lover myself and have travelled most of Ireland with my own dog, I fully understand the requirements of dog-friendly getaways and can promise you that bringing them along for the adventure is a lot easier than you may think.
I think you will agree that Sarah speaks so much sense and I’m definitely excited to take my next break here on this fair isle! For more information on Sarah’s beautiful bespoke honeymoon service, you can find all the details right here. Enjoy xx
