Is it just me or did 2018 just zip by in a flash!!! I have literally never had as busy a year in my life. It was a very interesting Christmas as like any Christmas, we catch up with people that we haven’t seen in a year. Everyone I met were so enthusiastic about all of the achievements of Irish Wedding Blog this year and what struck me is that I have not taken any time out to enjoy the moment of all of the really cool stuff I worked on this year. It was very similar to how I felt after my own wedding. I worked so hard that I didn’t come for air to enjoy and live in the moment.
This year, I’m going to try and enjoy everything a little bit more.
I jumped on the #topnine web craze to bring you some of my highlights.
It feels surreal looking at this and certainly doesn’t feel like my life at all. In the last year, I became a mum for the second time to baby Adam and this meant maternity leave from my full time job for the guts of a year. I have since returned and that was an incredibly difficult journey given the progress the blog made in that year and not to mention how much I enjoyed my time with my 2 little men. I still to this day find it very hard not being home before 6pm to make dinner and play with them. I am just walking in the door when it’s time to get ready for bed. That is the unfortunate reality for many working mums.
I took a good long unpaid break from work to enjoy my blogging and longer time with the boys. In that time, opportunities crossed my path which I dived on and I got to meet some incredible people. I have new circles of friends that have been some supportive and inspirational.
There were 4 huge highlights within this time, the first being getting my book published and distributed through Eason’s. This book was a labour of love, I was even signing off on the designs when I was in hospital which is not ideal but when you get something to almost finished and engagement season brewing, you are left with no choice but to just get the job done. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever walk in to Eason’s and see a book with my name as author on it!!!! It’s unreal!!!!
I had the opportunity to MC the ‘I Do School’ at the Wedding and Honeymoon Show in the RDS back in September and I will be back for the Bride of the Year Show on the 26th and 27th of January…..I seriously cannot wait!
My third highlight was of course my work as a bridal stylist with Virgin Medias Xpose. This one is the one I have most difficulty comprehending! It is an absolute honour to work with the Xpose family. I have had shoots with Dogs, Horses and Alpacas…..looking forward to seeing what 2019 brings!
Finally, my final highlight was winning Best Wedding Blog in Business for 2018 at the Irish Blog Awards. I honestly didn’t expect it given the competition I was up against. I didn’t even enter myself this year as I hate the feeling that awards are the only measure of success but I will happily accept this one!
Thank you all for your support, You’ve no idea how much it means to me and without you all, there would be no point in putting this work in.
I’m looking forward to what 2019 brings!
Have a great new year everyone
Sara
