I spotted Anthea and Gordon’s wedding on Help I’m Getting Married. I reached out and asked could I share their wedding with all of you! What caught my eye was all of the little details and the Harry Potter pieces.
Engagement
Not everyone can say they got engaged on the Hogwarts Express! Whilst on the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London, Gordon popped the question and of course Anthea said yes…..how could she not! Let’s just say…..the Harry Potter theme didn’t end here!
Planning:
It started with a huge amount research as it was key to not be cheesy but still have that amazing hogwarts magic. Once the color scheme was agreed (navy, silver and white) Anthea and Gordon progressed at great speed.
Like many couples, they wanted a small intimate wedding of 40 but this number doubled….as it does!
Anthea swore by AliExpress and bought all of her personalised pieces from here.
The Dress:
“There was a couple of outings in the early stages looking for my dress – this was my number one dread as I am not a great clothes shopper. I was full sure I was not paying thousands for my dress but also sure I could have my dream dress if I was savvy enough”
Anthea’s first stop was Barnardo’s bridal but didn’t find anything. A few boutiques later, Anthea did some internet thrawling and found a dress she tried on in a previous boutique. She managed to save on her budget and this left room to give a donation to the Alzhiemers Society which is close to both our hearts.
“Planning was very easy and we only disagreed once in the whole process and that was the table plan.”
Oh how I hear this all the time!
The Day:
“Walking the aisle was the most difficult point in the day and I really struggled to hold it together. Especially being escorted by my handsome 16 year old. Seeing Gordon’s face when I got to the top was magical.”
Anthea walked down the aisle to ‘From this moment’, which was sung by Amy Boyd. Anthea and Gordon opted for a spiritualist ceremony which was very personal to them. After the vows were exchanged, Anthea and Gordon left the church as husband and wife to ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’, sung again by Amy Boyd. It was intimate and an emotional affair.
Special Touches:
2. A remembrance candle was lit for those who couldn’t be there on the day.
3. Harry Potter themed photo-booth
4. Harry Potter themed candycart
5. The bouquet was a harry potter book
6. Rather than using a guest book, Anthea’s friend had all of the wedding guests sign patches and wishes. This will be turned in to a quilt! What a lovely idea!
Honeymoon:
They didn’t hold back they picked the cream of the crop. They went all inclusive at the 5 star in Playa Blanca.
Parting Advice:
“If you have a vision believe it can be a reality and work towards that – even if it seems like a wacky theme. Everyone will have an opinion but if you stay through to your vision then your day will make that dream a reality”
