Welcome to the intimate Plan B Real Wedding of Emma and Ruairí. After 10 years together, they were all set to have their wedding….that was until Covid 19 hit and we all had to start living our lives in a completely different way.
“Unfortunately we were among the many couples affected by Covid-19 for our wedding day plans, we were originally due to get married at The Millhouse in Slane on the 31st of May. We postponed to the 29th of August early on in the pandemic and were very hopeful right up until the announcement of extending the restrictions around wedding guests. We decided to postpone the big celebrations again 3 weeks before our wedding day to allow us to have all of our family and friends there within our forecasted numbers of 120. We decided to plan a very intimate ceremony where we would officially tie the knot and save our big celebrations until our new August 2021 date.”
Emma and Ruairí moved mountains to plan their intimate wedding within a week. They booked Scholars Townhouse Hotel in Drogheda and planned their ceremony and meal for their small group.
“They went above and beyond to make us feel relaxed and even allowed us to sneak away for a private moment in their bar Peggy Moores. Mark was incredible to deal with, all of the staff were on the ball and every guest commented on the service and impeccable food on the day.”
As mentioned the happy couples planned their wedding in one week…..yes one week! They were blessed as they chose excellent suppliers, they all pulled together to work with Emma and Ruairí to ensure they had a great day.
“Ruairí had bought two suits from Freddie Hatchet and we had just collected them at the start of August so his outfit was sorted. I had a beautiful dress from MKBridal in Navan but envisioned that for the Millhouse so decided to keep things simple with a wrap dress from Reformation.”
Emma and her mum decided to the make the cake seeing as though it was such a small number and her sister assisted with the table plan. It was all hands on deck!
On of the hardest part was not having some very important people there. Emma’s brother missed out on the big day as he lives in the US but all who could not be there got to tune in via Facetime.
“The craic was mighty! It was small and completely different from what we planned but we wouldn’t change a thing, the important thing for us was getting hitched and the intimate party we could have made it even more wonderful.”
Parting advice
“Just roll with it. A lot of stuff didn’t go the way we expected but we stayed on the positive side of things and kept on smiling. We are so lucky because we get to do it all again and will have the memories of two weddings and two celebrations with the best of both worlds, a big and a smaller wedding.”
