Every now and then, I come across a venue that makes me sit up. I came across this hidden gem in a real wedding feature I covered a while back. It was the wedding of Chantelle and Rory, I fell in love with it straight away.
Let me tell you a little about Ballintubbert House. It is located in County Laois and sits within 14 acres of restored pleasure gardens.
This historic country house certainly has a few stories to tell! There is also a Schoolhouse, converted Annex and Garden rooms to stay in.
The architecturally beautiful Pavilion marquee caught my attention initially and that encouraged me to look for more information. There is an adjacent chapel for wedding ceremonies as well as a wonderful selection of divine spots within the grounds for a humanist ceremony. The orchard looks beautiful and this is where I would choose!
This is one of my favourite features, there’s a barn! You can have your drinks reception there. I’m always drawn to the Pinterest pictures of rustic weddings in barns.
The marquee is one of the best I’ve seen in Ireland. It is circular and looks like a giant and elaborate yurt. Its gives a real quirky feel! Inside, you have everything you need including; bar, dance floor, lighting, heating, tables and chairs etc. Some venues give you the marquee shell and you have to dress it yourself but in this case, it comes fully equipped.
When it comes to food, you have the option to bring your own caterer or use their in-house caterer, Lu Thornely. I had a caterer for my own wedding and it gave us so much flexibility.
One extra which Ballintubbert House do very well is wood-fired pizza at night. If this came out at a wedding I was at, I would tuck in! What a treat!
Between Ballintubbert House, the Schoolhouse and the converted garden rooms and annex there are 15 double guest rooms in total and they are beautifully decorated.
There are also plenty of local accommodation options. For the more adventurous, there is an option to go Glamping! Yes Glamping. It’s a very fancy way to camp and a lot more luxurious than normal camping!
Ballintubbert offers both Yurts and Bell Tents, luxuriously furnished.
The team are so lovely and from my dealings with them, they will really go above and beyond to create a magical day. They actually ‘design’ your bespoke wedding with you.
You can get straw bale seating, picnics, BBQ’s….you name it. They will help deliver what you need!
They recently hosted a wedding show case with a difference. The whole venue was set up as it would appear on a wedding day and from the pictures below (courtesy of Joe Conroy) you will see all of the suppliers that took part.
You can get some inspiration for you own wedding planning!
