I’ve had my eye on Fota Island Resort for years, so when the chance came to check out their wedding venue, I jumped at it! Let me tell you, this place does not disappoint.
AD – Please note that this is a sponsored article but all opinions are my own.
From the moment you drive up the avenue, you’re greeted by a charming gate lodge covered in flowers—absolute perfection for those dreamy couple shots. And just before you step inside, there’s an impressive water feature, but don’t miss the incredible view stretching across County Cork. Let’s not forget that you are on a private island as well. Talk about a grand entrance!
Before heading inside, I took a stroll around the grounds and stumbled upon the Oriental Garden. It’s got these subtle nods to the nearby Wildlife Park, and honestly, each corner of the garden makes for a stunning backdrop for wedding photos.
When you step into the hotel itself, you’re instantly hit with those resort vibes; calm, elegant, and the most incredible scent wafting through the air. To the right of reception, there are three eateries, perfect for menu tastings or your pre/post-wedding celebrations.
Now, here’s where Fota Island Resort really sets itself apart. To the left of reception is where you’ll find the wedding setup, completely separate from the rest of the resort. It’s bright, airy, and built specifically with wedding guests in mind. From gin stations to Prosecco receptions, their wedding team helps you create the perfect arrival for your guests. The private garden next to the ballroom has those beautiful oriental elements again, and the walkway leading from the hill makes for the most magical entrance for an outdoor ceremony. But don’t worry, if the weather doesn’t cooperate, the ballroom can transform into a stunning ceremony space. With natural light streaming in and a grand antique mirror as the focal point, it’s perfect.
When it’s time to dine, your guests will be seated in the elegant ballroom. This space is a breath of fresh air with light, neutral tones that you can personalise with your decor or just leave as is, because it’s beautiful on its own. One thing that truly stands out at Fota Island Resort is the food. Their executive head chef takes pride in sourcing local, in-season ingredients, and couples can tailor their menu if they want something a little more unique. Chef is always up for a challenge!
A hidden bar within the ballroom? Yes, please! It stays tucked away during the meal to keep the focus on speeches, and once the party kicks off, the bar is revealed—perfect for keeping the energy up and the dancefloor packed. Plus, there’s a stage for your band to perform. I’m obsessed with the idea of having your first dance outside in the courtyard under the twinkling lights!
And when the night’s over? You’ve got not one, but two bridal suites to choose from, giving you the luxury of staying the night before or after your wedding. These suites are pure indulgence, with separate lounges, balconies, and plenty of space for all your morning preparations. The light is perfect for makeup, and some of the deluxe guest rooms have mini balconies for guests. Fota Island Resort really knows how to make you feel like VIPs.
What really impressed me, though, is the team at Fota Island Resort. During my visit, everything ran like clockwork—no last-minute panics, no forgotten details, just a well-oiled machine. If you’re lucky enough to have this team looking after your wedding, you’re in very safe hands.
