I attended Sinead De Blogger’s Bridal Bootcamp recently. I was chatting about wedding planning BUT Linda Stinson (CEO of Bellamianta & Iconic Bronze) was also chatting about getting tan ready for your wedding day. I swear I was flat out writing notes as she spoke. I am notoriously useless at doing my own tan and now I know why. Her tips and tricks were so important and practical. We ended up chatting after and I was very keen to get the information out to you all. AND if it’s good enough for Maura Higgins, it’s good enough for me!
Over to the Bellamianta team…..
Your wedding tan needs to be flawless, and whether you are a pro tanner or a first timer, we have put together some of our top tips and tricks to give you that natural, golden, streak-free glow!
Trial & Error
If you’re getting a spray or doing it yourself, it’s essential to trial out your tan. If you are doing it yourself it’s important to take note of a few things like:
– Measuring the amount of product you are using
– How long you leave it on before you wash it off
– How many days after the first application does the tan wear off.
With these in mind, maybe trial it more than once, so it’s comparable. Our Crystal Clear Mousse is the perfect at home bridal tan, it has zero guide colour and zero colour transfer, so you don’t have to worry about your wedding whites getting any nasty colours.
If you are getting a spray, it’s good to do your research on the salon, checking that it stocks good quality products and that it has received some great reviews, after all, you want this experience to be an enjoyable one and knowing that your therapist cares about how good your tan will look for your big day is a big help! Bellamianta offer two professional spray solutions, Rapid Tan and Intense Dark, both of which are quick drying, transfer and water resistant, and have that golden olive tone. Having the conversation with your therapist about your desired skin tone will inform them on which product will best suit you.
TOP TIP – Try have the same therapist do your trial and your wedding tan. This way you can build a relationship with your tanner and get rid of any nerves.
Preparation is Key!
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail, and there is no better plan quite like a tanning regime.
•Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! This will remove dead skin cells and provide and even surface to the skin which is the key foundation to a great tan. Our Triple Action Glycolic Body Scrub along with our Luxury Exfoliating Mitt is the perfect way to guarantee ready-to-tan skin.
•Shave or wax at least 24hrs before your tan.
•Follow up with a good full body moisturiser before you go to bed. Try avoid an oil based moisturiser as sometimes this can act as a barrier to your tan.
•The following morning, the day of your tan, give your wrists, elbows, ankles and knees a light layer of the same moisturiser, keeping these areas smooth for the tan application.
Loose clothes are your saviour, avoid bras, tight underwear, socks and anything you think might leave a mark on your skin. Your safest bet is to stick to dark loose tracksuit bottoms, an old baggy t-shirt and the infamous flip flops for after your tan.
TOP TIP- Don’t apply deodorant, perfumes or makeup before or after on the day of your tan.
Everyone gets nervous about tanning their face, but it’s very important that on the day of your wedding that your body and face are the same colour, and this is easily achieved when your face has the same base colour. We recommend a light spray to your face, your therapist will have sprayed multiple faces, you won’t be the first one. Bellamianta is known for its natural golden glow, its luxury blend of tanning agents work to your individual skin tone to deliver a natural finish that will not develop orange or too dark, especially to the face. If you are applying your own self tan, we recommend mixing your tan with your own facial moisturiser and applying, with a foundation brush, to the parts of your face that you would usually contour first and then buffing out into the rest of the face.
TOP TIP– Have your tan trial the day before your makeup trial, that way your makeup artist can adjust colours to suit your face and body.
The Big Reveal
You will know when is best to wash off the tan residue, with advise from either your therapist or the tanning product directions. In the shower you will notice colour wash off in the water, don’t be alarmed, this is just the guide colour which is used to see where tan has been applied. You will still be left with a gorgeous, even tan after all this washes away. Don’t use any body scrubs in the shower and lightly pat yourself dry afterwards.
Hey It’s Your Big Day!
Now that you have your glow covered and you know it’s going to be a flawless one, you can go and enjoy yourself, you goddess!
